Julia Silveira, LMSW
My name is Julia Tomoyasu Silveira, and I graduated with a Master in Social Work from Columbia University School of Social Work. I am half Brazilian, half Japanese, and I speak English, Japanese, and Portuguese. I have personally benefited from therapy, and I am passionate about bringing those benefits to others as a therapist.
How I Help
I believe that one of the most important keys to overcoming barriers is to be kind to ourselves. Once we accept who we are, we are more amenable to changing and gaining strength. I am here to be a companion, facilitator, and participant in this process. I believe strongly in a strength-based approach focusing on empathy, where I emphasize your unique inner power to help you overcome your barriers, which can be relationship conflicts, life transitions, or overall stress. There is a lot to be gained through a therapeutic relationship by adapting it to our everyday lives.
I have vast experiences working with teens, those in their 20s and 30s, and individuals going through transition phases. I have worked with individuals from various ethnic groups facing depression, bipolar disorder, and everyday life challenges such as time management, stress, and relationship issues.
Every person is unique and will benefit most from a tailored approach to therapy. During our first sessions, I will determine the best style for you so that you will benefit most from our time together. For example, I introduce mindfulness for you to become more in tune with yourself, cognitive behavioral therapy for those looking for a more solution-based approach, and other therapeutic modalities. We will work as a team to approach your issues and attain our goals together.
