Common questions answered!
What is psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy is also known as talk therapy, counseling, or, simply, therapy. Psychotherapy can provide a wonderful opportunity for deep healing and significant personal growth.
How long will I be in therapy?
There is no specific time frame for therapy. Our goal is to give you effective tools to use in your daily life to get you feeling better as soon as possible. Some people can resolve their issues in a few months while others require longer term treatment.
To whom do you provide services?
We provide individual therapy for adults, adolescents, and children who are experiencing emotional and/or interpersonal difficulties. We also see families and couples.
How do I make an appointment?
Contact us online or at (718) 260-6042 to schedule a free 15 minute phone consultation prior to making an appointment for your first in-person therapy session.
Are the therapy sessions confidential?
The confidentiality of all communications between a client and a therapist is protected by law. Aside from certain specific situations, a psychotherapist cannot tell anyone what you have discussed in therapy or even that you are in therapy without permission.
How much does therapy cost?
We want to make therapy accessible to you, no matter what your budget is. We offer a full range of services to meet your financial needs. Please contact us online or at (718) 260-6042 for our rates.
What session formats do you offer?
- 45 minute individual in-person sessions
- 60 minute couples in-person sessions
- Phone sessions
- Online video sessions
How do the online video sessions work?
Online video sessions can be a useful option for clients that live far from our office, are on vacation, are out of town, or are simply too busy to make the trip to our office. You may wish to have all of your sessions online or to supplement your in-person sessions with online sessions. The choice is yours! We conduct online video sessions on Skype and FaceTime.
Do you accept insurance?
We accept Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, and CHP insurance and are an out-of-network provider for most other insurance companies. Many insurance plans have out-of-network benefits that typically reimburse between 50% and 80% of costs after your deductible is met. We will verify your benefits and file your claims after each session. While we ask for session payments upfront, insurance reimbursement for covered sessions will be sent directly to you. We will explain your out-of-network coverage and mental health/behavioral health benefits to you in a way that makes sense. Our goal is to make this process as easy as possible for you.
You may click on the Claimly widget below to check your insurance coverage. Note that this is a third party service that requires your consent to use.
What forms of payment do you accept?
Fees are paid after each session by cash, check, or PayPal. You may also pay by credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover).
What is your cancellation policy?
Due to the high cost of offering services in New York City, Cobb Psychotherapy has a strict no show/late cancellation policy. Clients are charged the full session fee for any session missed or not cancelled at least 24 hour in advance. These no show/late cancellation fees are typically not reimbursed by insurance. We always do our best to schedule make-up sessions at a convenient times.
May I refer you to others?
Our practice thrives on referrals from our clients! If you like the services you receive, please refer us to your friends and family.
