“Because true belonging only happens when we present our authentic, imperfect selves to the world, our sense of belonging can never be greater than our level of self-acceptance.” —Brené Brown
Disordered Eating and Body Image
Hi! My name is Salina Grilli. I am a therapist at Cobb Psychotherapy LCSW. As a therapist, I work primarily with high-achieving college students and young adults struggling with anxiety disorders, perfectionism, low self-esteem, disordered eating/body image issues, and OCD. I strive to empower my clients to cultivate greater self-esteem and to assist them in developing tools to better manage the stressors of everyday life. I believe that everyone has the innate capacity to thrive.
Thought + Behavior Changer
Did you know we all have between 50,000 - 70,000 thoughts per day? Some researchers even argue that upward of 95% of our thoughts are repeated from yesterday, and often 80% of our thoughts are negative. I work with my clients to understand their ingrained, often destructive thoughts and behaviors so that they can begin to make meaningful changes. I also help clients develop skills, which aid in forming new, healthier thought patterns and behaviors.
Perfectionism and Personal Growth
Perfectionism and the all-encompassing drive to succeed can often stifle growth and happiness by fueling self-doubt and creating unhealthy thought patterns and behaviors. I work with many Type-A, highly ambitious individuals who, despite excelling in their careers or academically, find themselves feeling unhappy and unfulfilled. I strive to help my clients find balance, learn to practice self-compassion, and increase their sense of meaning and purpose.
Disordered Eating and Negative Body Image
I am passionate about helping clients who want to heal their relationship with food and their bodies. I believe that full recovery from an eating disorder, disordered eating, and negative body image is in fact possible, even in a society that is highly saturated by diet culture. My goal is to help clients understand the role that their unhealthy relationship with food and their body serves. I help my clients get to a place of body and food acceptance. Before joining Cobb Psychotherapy LCSW, I worked at an outpatient eating disorder treatment center in Manhattan.
How I Help
Foremost, I come from a place of warmth, empathy, and non-judgment. I believe in drawing upon clients’ innate strengths to help them feel empowered to make choices that lead them towards a meaningful life. I take a holistic approach to therapy that empowers clients to make meaningful changes in their lives by tapping into their strengths and values.
My approach is rooted in psychodynamic techniques and draws upon a plethora of evidence-based modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Mindfulness. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help my clients understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, so that they can start feeling in control and begin making meaningful changes. For client’s struggling to manage their mood, I utilize Dialectical Behavioral Therapy to help them learn distress tolerance and emotion regulation skills.
More About Me
I love all things related to summer, and do my best to find any semblance of nature in NYC. In my free time you can find me exploring new neighborhoods and restaurants, traveling to new cities, or running in Central Park.
