I am a Licensed Master Social Worker and I work with teens and adults dealing with mood disorders, addiction issues, eating disorders, anxiety, and past trauma. I address topics such as anger management, stress management, life transitions, communication strategies, and mind and body health and wellness.

How I Help

As a DBT therapist, my role can take on various forms during the therapeutic process. I am an empathic listener, a problem-solver, a team-player in session, and a coach when teaching DBT skills. I spend a good amount of time in the first phase of treatment getting to know my clients and orienting them to a DBT approach. I set measurable long and short-term goals and use these goals to guide future sessions and measure progress in therapy. I also bring in DBT skills as needed to help clients develop skills to manage emotions, tolerate distress, be interpersonally effective, and live in a mindful way. As a DBT therapist, I believe the therapeutic process creates a “real relationship between equals,” and I honor the experiences and individuality each client brings to session. We work collaboratively and directly to enhance wellness and create a life worth living.

DBT assumptions, as written out by Marsha Linehan in her book Cognitive-Behavioral Treatment of Borderline Personality Disorder, guide DBT treatment and create an environment for acceptance, change, and the development of a real relationship. My favorite DBT assumptions are: 

  1. Patients are doing the best they can.

  2. Patients want to improve.

  3. Patients may not have caused all of their own problems, but they have to solve them anyway (i.e., patients must change their own behavioral responses and alter his/her environment for life to change).

I truly believe in the ability of my clients to make progress, heal, and learn how to cope with past, present, and future stressors in an effective manner. I believe that change can occur within the therapeutic process, despite poor treatment experiences in the past and invalidation from others. My clients never cease to amaze me with their resilience, self-awareness, and willingness to make small, behavioral changes that add to larger gains over time.  

More About Me

In my spare time I love to travel with my husband, explore other cultures, and see the world. I also love to cook, be physically active, and be in nature as much as possible, especially since I grew up in Southern California near the beach.
