We are excited to welcome Tess Riabokin, our clinical intern, to the Cobb Psychotherapy Team! Learn more about her below:

What initially inspired you to pursue a career as a therapist?

Working in wilderness therapy I was inspired by the change and healing I got to witness in my students. I was also lucky to work under some amazing and talented therapists. Learning in the mountains of Colorado and Utah canyons wasn't so bad either. Doing my own personal work over many years has also instilled in me a hope for healing and change that has led me to want to help others understand themselves in a deeper way.

As a therapist, what are you most passionate about?

The information stored in relationships is fascinating to me. I value establishing strong therapeutic relationships with my clients from which we can explore how they relate to various parts of themselves and with others. Everything happens in relationship, so I just love it as a tool in my work.

What are your specialties and what drew you to them?

I was first introduced to the Gestalt model of therapy by a mentor in wilderness. I then went on to begin my training at the Gestalt Institute in CO in 2013. As a model, I am drawn to it because it is relationally based and can simplify even the most complex psychic processes and experiences.

What makes you unique as a therapist?

I can make a bow-drill fire :)

How would you describe your therapeutic approach?

I like to start with establishing a strong relational foundation in the beginning as this allows for whatever needs tending to, to arise.

Everyone needs self-care. How do you practice self-care?

I strive to make time for this each day and to be gentle with myself in how I do so - I find it to be a full-time job not in just what I do but how and what I think about or allow into my headspace. I like to ride my bike, swim, and I practice Iyengar yoga. I only watch shows like Mindhunter in the off-season. I connect with friends often and share meals or go to the park usually in a one-sie. I also try to spend time with the little humans in my life - nieces and nephews. I am engaged in my own therapeutic work which inspires me and teaches me more and more about what's possible with this process. The basics are so valuable too! I try to SLEEP, eat and drink enough good things - and be a "good enough" human.

What is your favorite...

Book: My latest favorite (there are too many) is Near to a Wild Heart, by Clarice Lispector

Movie: Baz Lurman's Romeo & Juliet
TV Show: Schitt's Creek, Fleabag, Killing Eve, and Succession

What is one thing that is important for anyone to know?

Understanding and being understood are important to me.
